Can Allergic Rhinitis Cause Fever?

Allergic rhinitis, commonly known as hay fever, is primarily characterized by symptoms such as sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, and itchy or watery eyes. Fever is not a typical symptom of allergic rhinitis. However, in some cases, individuals with allergic rhinitis may experience a low-grade fever as a result of the body’s response to allergens.
When allergens, such as pollen or dust mites, trigger an allergic reaction in the nasal passages and respiratory system, the immune system releases chemicals like histamine. These chemicals can cause inflammation, which may lead to symptoms like nasal congestion and sneezing. In some instances, the immune response to allergens can create a mild inflammatory response in the body, which may slightly raise body temperature. This can result in a low-grade fever, but it is not a common or distinctive feature of allergic rhinitis.
